Movema Launch Event at Cains

Movema World Dance Studios are holding their launch event on 29th October, rx 12 – 5pm at Cains Brewery (Baltic Triangle). It’s a fundraising event for all the family, more about featuring free live music and dance workshops to celebrate both their seventh birthday and grand opening!

Following a successful KickStarter campaign and colourful renovation of the top floor of the Cains Brewery building, award-winning dance company Movema are delighted to celebrate their grand opening and seventh birthday with free dance performances and a live music extravaganza. The rest of the Cains Brewery Village family, including sports-coffee shop hybrid Ryde, vintage bazaar Red Brick Vintage, boutique clothing shop Bijou and up and coming craft and vintage specialist Tinderbox Fairs will be present to deliver a quality event for all the family to enjoy.

Founded in 2009, Movema has changed the face of dance in the Merseyside area, as well as being a key part of Africa Oye and Brouhaha Carnival to name a few! Movema provide enriching opportunities through world dance to people of the area who would previously not have been able to enjoy and take part in dance classes or workshops, including both children and adults.

On top of providing quality world dance classes to the people of Liverpool, Movema also work closely with LIPA and Mersey Care NHS with their “Moving Minds” mental health care programme, in which they provide dance and movement workshops to individuals or groups affected by mental health concerns.

Now, as they approach their seventh year as a company, Movema are inviting the public to come and celebrate with them as they host free dance classes, dance workshops and live music performances.

Movema director Ithalia Forel said: “We might only be a small non-for-profit company, but we punch above our weight and we’re thrilled to be entering an exciting new chapter in Movema’s story”

Liverpool Irish Festival returns next month!

Running 13-23 Oct, 2016’s Liverpool Irish Festival will focus on conviviality. How does our liveliness and friendliness bring people together? It might be over a music session, through a story or just by sharing an event together, we’re bringing together new writers and new sounds, with old stories and traditional instruments.

So what do we have? Well, Alsop Drama perform Three Plays: Riders to the Sea, The Shadow of the Glen and Purgatory. There’s “whiskey soaked folk” from The Logues and soaring sounds from Lisa Hannigan at the Arts Club. We Banjo 3 return to Liverpool Philharmonic’s Music Room. We’ll explore James Joyce’s ‘A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man’ in its centenary year and of course have our traditional family ceílí. And there’s plenty more!

With less than a month to go, we understand you’re itching for the fun to begin. Why not sneak an early peek by visiting some of our partners early?

You can find Irish music sessions at some of the city’s fabulous pubs, such as The Caledonia and The Edinburgh, who take part in the festival again. There’s also St Michael’s Irish Centre, where you’ll find folk nights, film and storytelling between now and 13 Oct. The Institute of Irish Studies holds regular talks and events exploring Irish culture and Community.

Take part and tell us what you think using our official festival hashtags acrossTwitter, Facebook and Instagram: #LivIrishFest, #madfortrad and #madfornew.
